My wife and I were really looking forward to our cruise on the Independence of the Seas. After being married recently we were planning to go on this cruise for part of our honeymoon in part with a European vacation.
We arrived into London and viewed all the sights on our own and got a quaint little bed and breakfast that was perfect for us. The day of the cruise we made our own way to Southhampton and were quickly boarded onto the ship. We went and had lunch and by the time we were finished our luggage was already in our room. That is great service.
The Independence of the Seas is a huge ship. You never expect to see an ice skating rink on a ship but it was there though small in size.
The entertainment was good but not great onboard. We found some shows we liked but for the most just avoided it. We spent more times in the bars which we found more entertaining especially the Schooner bar.
We had a balcony cabin and if you want to see anything you really need binoculars as you are too far away to really make out a lot of things.
The main problem with a big ship like this was that the buffet area could only fit 900 people at a time. You might not think that is a problem but the Independence of the Seas holds 3500 passengers and everyone wants to eat at the same time.
The dinner was good and our assistant waiter was very good and attentive but our main waiter unfortunately was not.
We had a great cruise and really did enjoy the whole trip however our bill at the end was in the $1000's. Remember not everything is included and there are a lot of extras to pay for.
Overall great trip, good staff and beautiful ship.
