This was our first cruise and will most definitely not go with NCL again. 2 days into the cruise they got all paranoid (I see from other reviews that this is a normal thing for NCL) about gastro and were idiotic with the hand sanitizing. They started their \"silver\" service, which meant that you had to wait in long lines for service and never received anything that you asked for. The service staff was very unhelpful. I work in a hospital and hand sanitizing is not pushed on you like this ship. They expected you to sanitize your hands going into every single room. How does this help when the staff serving you are scratching their heads or rubbing their noses? And they would never sanitize the tables, just quickly wipe them. The food got pretty boring after a few days, and we tried the extra fee restaurant twice, but the portions were ridiculously small and the service was no better, so we gave that up.
The ship has only been out for 4 years, but I thought that it was built in the 90s with the dated decor and roughness of the common areas and peeling paint on the exterior.
The $12/day \"auto grat\" is outrageous for inferior service.
Most of the bar staff was very pleasant and some of the entertainment was good, and some was high school level.
The only reason you should go on this cruise is for the port of calls, not the ship or staff.

Just returned from a cruise on the Jade. We started in Istanbul and ended in Athens. The scheduled stops were what drew us to this particular cruise, and the destinations are very good indeed. As for the ship, we were dissapointed in much of the value from the food to the service. We had 2 days where we had no cabin service at all, and the staff was not overly eager to be very helpful at all. Destinations and shore excursions were phenomenal with plenty of time at the most popular stops like Egypt and Santorini.
As far as the on board experiences, it was not what we hoped for. Food was so-so, entertainment was not good at all and they got overly paranoid about half way through the cruise and went to full service in the buffet lines, which delayed everything and made for a not very enjoyable experience. They were trying to prevent gastro intestinal problems.

The surcharges on board the Norwegian Jade are outrageous. We paid upfront at the time of booking our holiday but were still charged 15%. On questionning why - we were told the charges were not compulsory but were automatically taken for our convenience. We were refunded.

Be wary of your ID cards -Check your summaries on a regular basis. Not sure how it was done but mine was used in the Video Arcade 16 times over a period of 20 minutes whilst I was ashore and my card was with me. On challenging the Customer Service Manager I was told that the only way the card could have been used was if it was swiped. When I requested him to check the CCTV because they are all over the ship - it transpired the details of my card were used not the card (Be careful!!)

Staff were friendly and polite but extremely overworked. Food is not available 24 hours aday. For those travelling without children that do not wish to be surrounded by screaming adolescents or babies avoid School holidays. Entertainment on this particular cruise ship is substandard. Overall. It wasn\'t a bad experience but I wouldn\'t be in a rush to travel on the Norwegian Jade in the near future

Ports of call were interesting and great cross-section of the Med. Jade was clean overall and common areas well kept. Staff in the \"upcharge\" restaurants provided excellent service and did not rush the courses along. Main \"non-fee\" restaurants were over crowded, even with a reservation the wait to get to your seat was long and disappointing. If cruising with lots of \"sea time\", recommend booking a balcony room or better. Housekeeping and overall service will be much better. Ship seemed crowded and Jade staffers said the cruise was over-booked, sure felt that way. Brought comments to the cruise consultant and front desk and didn\'t feel NCL was listening. As a latitudes member, will think twice about a NCL cruise in the future.

If you go on a cruise in the Mediterranean you have to know what to expect. First choose a cruise that goes to places that you really want to see. Sometimes people just choose the cheapest cruise that goes to uninteresting ports and then complain about the cruise. The sea days are enjoyable because you can relax but the days in port are crazy. Everyone is trying to see as much as possible in the short time. The tours are all very long with some being the entire day. If you have a few port days in a row it gets rather tiring though you definitely do see alot. My main complaint for this ship is all the surcharges. There are alot of restaurants onboard but most of them you have to pay for. We just ended eating in the buffet where you just choose what you want. Internet was expensive onboard so only expect to do a quick check of your emails. Clases onboard were extra charges and you have to pay for pool tables. The Photo Gallery has outrageous prices. Then of course you are charged daily for tipping. Add on to this drinks and shore excursions and you have a very expensive bill. We did decrease our tipping because we felt that the service was not up to par. Overall an ok cruise but wouldn\'t travel with Norwegian again.

We just returned from our cruise on the Norwegian Jade. At the time we had looked through many different cruise lines but our travel agent recommended NCL because of the Union Discount. It just worked out to be the cheapest for my family.
When we got to the ship we went up to our beautiful balcony cabin. We were really happy that we got a balcony cabin and used it extensively on our cruise. There is nothing quite like getting some fresh air into your room at night.
I heard people complaining about long wait times at some of the restaurants. I found that people generally ate late which wasn\'t the case for us. We ate early and never had a wait.
The service onboard was good and we had no complaints. Our room was clean and we were treated well in the dining rooms.
Our young kids aged 8 and 10 really enjoyed the kids programs onboard the ship and they had lots of activities to do. They even made some good friends.
The ports of call were amazing and we did all our shore excursions through the Norwegian Jade. It definitely was a big bill for us but it was a once in a lifetime experience.
Though we enjoyed this cruise I don\'t think I would rush back to booking the Norwegian Jade.

We arrived at the pier for our Eastern Mediterranean cruise that we have been looking forward to for months. The embarkation process was a breeze and before we knew it we were on the jade drinking Champagne and Orange Juice, ahhh. Off to our cabin we went and we were happy with it. The layout was good and had a lot of storage space and the bathroom was an acceptable size.
The ship itself was not very impressive but was clean and maintained. The colors and decor still reminded me of the Hawaiian theme for when it was in Hawaii. Hopefully when they remodel the ship they will change this decor around as it just doesn't work for anywhere else than Hawaii.
Our cabin steward was wonderfull very attentive and helpful. As for the dining room staff they seemed cold and uninterested. They seemed like they would rather not be working.
Entertainment was average and not interesting. We ended up walking out on one production as we were just bored. The comedian we did find funny and were glad we went to that show.
For food I ate mostly at the specialty restaurants each evening and my favourites were Cagney's and Le Bistro.
Don't expect to use the internet cafe as one look at the line and we decided against trying to use it.
As for the Casino I don't think while I was there I ever saw anyone win on those things. Don't expect to win back your cruise fare with those slots.
The ship tours in the various ports were wonderfull and though pricey were well worth it.
Disembarkation again was easy and we were off the ship in no time.

Overall it was a satisfactory cruise but I would like to try a different cruiseline or ship next time.

I am a seasoned cruiser having sailed on Holland America, Princess, Celebrity and Norwegian Cruise Line. I really like freestyle dining which is why NCL was my first choice. We fly into London and made our own way down to Southampton looking at the sights along the way.

Embarkation went smoothly and we were given our cards and allowed to board. We booked an inside cabin as we don't think it is necessary to spend the extra for a cabin with a window.

The first problem was the staff as most seemed like they were just going through the motions and didn't want to be there. No one was friendly. The room had an empty bottle left in it and the toilet was dirty. It took forever for our room to be made everday with it usually being done only by the afternoon. The service in the dining room was particulary bad as one waiter seemed to be handling everything and wasn't effective. They were majorly understaffed. The specialty restaurants were better though we had some bad experiences too.
Food was okay but very repetitive and little selection. Buffet food was cold when it should have been hot.

The shore excursions were really overpriced by almost double what I could find from companies locally. Yet most of the tours that I wanted were sold out.

I found that events weren't well advertised and we really had to look hard at the Freestyle Daily to find something interesting. Entertainment was so so with only a few good acts.

The ship was nice with few complaints though I didn't like the style of the furniture in most of the lounges.

The itinerary was very good which made this cruise better and with only 2 days at sea we didn't notice the problems as much. If there were more sea days I would be unhappy.

NCL used to be my favourite but I don't know if I will sail with them again.

This was our first cruise on the Norwegian Jade and we were doing the eastern mediterranean itinerary. Embarkation was going well until an alarm went off when we were on the gangway. The crew didn't seem to know what to do. Luckily it didn't appear to be anything as I would have hate to see such confusion in a real emergency.
Our luggage took forever to get on board and finally when it did one of the handles was broken. We complained but the didn't seem to care.
The garden cafe food was usually just warm and not that good. It definitely is geared towards the tastes of Americans and had no local cuisine onboard. They always seemed to run out of plates and cutlery and people started just grabbing them from the server as soon as they came out with new ones. The paying restaurants were not bad and not crowded but also you need to pay for them after you paid for your cruise.
Some of the enteratinment was good onboard with some of the entertainers that they brought onboard.
We found the shore excursions very expensive and decided to do everything on our own. We saved a fortune and had a better time.
We did not like the automatic tipping that was put onboard. We felt that was the reason for the poor service. Some people deserved tips and most did not. At the end of the cruise there was a line for people choosing to opt out of the surcharge. You had to sign a form but at least it was possible.
Overall we would rate this trip as average but they could be a lot better with just some better service and food. I wouldn't travel again with them except for a really good price.
