We found Norwegian wasn't for us. This time for Alaska we thought we would try a new cruise line. We went with Celebrity on the Celebrity Mercury.
We arrived in Vancouver the night before and stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront which is a nice hotel and close to the cruise terminal.
I would say that the service was excellent onboard the staff really made a great effort and making everyone comfortable and just being friendly. Our room stewart was efficient and very responsive to any concern we had.
The cabins are small but we still did find enough room to store all of our luggage away and we are not light packers. The entertainment was good to average in the evening but we found we didn't go out that much at night anyway.
The food was excellent and we really enjoyed almost all our meals. Our waiter always gave good recommendations.
We really enjoyed Alaska and the ports and we will are looking forward to sailing with Celebrity again in the future.

They have mastered embarkation and we were very quickly onboard the ship. Went and got a bite to eat and then we headed to our stateroom which was cleaned by now. Overall a very painless embarkation.
The cabins were comfortable and had lots of storage room. We loved having the balcony door open at night and hearing the ocean come in. Cabin stewards did an excellent job and were so nice.
The solarium is the place we choose most of the time to relax. Though it often got quite hot in there and then we would move. I think we liked that kids aren't allowed there so you can just have peace and quiet.
We had the celebrity select dining which was perfect because we could choose our dining time and were able to make it to the shows.
The food onboard was excellent and we really enjoyed everything from the hamburgers around the pool, to the evening dining to the buffet. Just top notch.
Celebrity did a great job on this cruise and we really felt like we got a relaxing vacation which we needed.

I thought it would be perfect being a new ship. The food was not good in the main dining room. The food was often cold when it arrived and the service was slow at times. The presentation looked like something from a cafeteria. We ended up paying extra and going to the speciality restaurant onboard.
The ship itself was lovely and everything is new and well designed. The rooms were spacious for our needs and quite comfortable.
The entertainment as well was quite good and we definitely enjoyed some of the shows.
That said I was not really impressed by the Eclipse and not sure I will sail with Celebrity again.

Before this the biggest boat I was on was a ferry. I was nervous on what to expect and whether I would even like the cruise on the Solstice.
When I arrived at the pier and saw the ship for the first time my fears vanished. It is a beautiful looking ship. Embarkation was easy and the staff very efficient and helpful. It took us only 20 minutes to get on the ship which I thought was fast. I was expecting huge lineups.
There are lots of elevators onboard which is great as I have problems walking stairs. I really liked the lawn club as well and made good use of it.
The ship does cater to an older clientelle of 50 - 60's which was fine with us. The activities also are geared towards older people.
The food onboard was excellent and if you really want a treat eat at Blu.
Really I had nothing to worry about when going on the Celebrity Solstice. I really enjoyed my week long cruise and will sail with Celebrity in the future.

This would be our first time on the Celebrity Solstice. We arrived at around 11:00am at the port and had to wait only a short time before we could board the ship. We had purchased an Aqua Class cabin which I would recommend so we had a special checkin. When we first got onboard we were excited as she was a beautiful ship. I liked the overall decor and the art that was everywhere. It really created a nice atmosphere.
Our cabin was awesome and we really enjoyed staying there.
There are lots of places to eat onboard and the food we got in Aqua class was excellent. The buffets didn't have the best of choice and often hard to find something we liked.
With a large ship like the Solstice they can only go into certain ports due to the size. For this reason we didn't go to as many interesting ports. That is the advantage of a smaller cruise ship.
What I didn't like about the Solstice was that the staff wasn't that great. They did their job but just lacked that extra friendliness and helpfulness. I have had better service on previous cruises. The entertainment was dreadful at times so be prepared to entertain yourself.
Overall we enjoyed our cruise on the Solstice and she is a beautiful ship but we would only sail on her again for a good deal.

When we first boarded the Solstice after our long flight from Vancouver we were just amazed. She really is a beautiful ship and we spent a good while just exploring. The staff was wonderful and very friendly. Many remembered my name and what drinks I like even if I haven't seen them for a few days.
I did hear people complain how they didn't like the look of the ship but I disagree. It is a more contemporary style but I like it with a lot of art work around the ship.
The food onboard was excellent and found it better than the other cruise lines we have been on.
I found the buffet to be well organized with a lot of different choices. I thought the buffet was better than we had on Princess.
The lawn club was lots of fun and you can play bocce or croquet. Also was fun to see a lawn at sea.
The service is what really sold me on this cruise. Everyone I dealt with and talked with listned to my concerns and addressed them. They were friendly and helpful and just top notch. I think some of the other cruise lines can learn from this. I think we have turned over to Celebrity now and will sail with them in the future. I definitely would sail on the Celebrity Solstice again.

The Carnival cruises were good but after sailing on the Celebrity Solstice I realized they are no where close in quality.
Embarkation was quick and easy and when we boarded we were blown away by the ship. Being a new ship she is in great condition and though very large she did feel very comfortable still.
We enjoyed the lawn club and the solarium though the solarium pool was often very busy.
There definitely was an older age group onboard the ship from late 50's and up. On our Carnival cruise there were more families and younger adults. The entertainment on Celebrity is more subdued compared to Carnival. The activities are more geared to an mature clientele.
The buffet was about average and nothing too great. We really did like Blu and ate there every night being Aqua class.
The rooms were wonderful and especially since we splurged on the Aqua Class. Definitely worth it and made our cruise.
They do have a nice gym and spa onboard and a lot of sports activities going on. The jogging track isn't the best as it gets so crowded.
Overall a wonderful experience and we look forward to sailing on the Celebrity Solstice again.

We were very sad to leave the ship. It was a seven day cruise with two sea days.
Embarkation went smooth we quickly got through the lines and were onboard the ship. We did bring ourr daybags with us. This is so we could change and also take a quick swim before our luggage arrive. After a quick dip we were quite hungary and went to get some food. The food onboard was so much better than we had experienced before on Carnival. The dinners at night were exceptional and the service was outstanding.
We loved the entertainment onboard from all the daily activities onboard like glass blowing. We even won the free raffle for a beautiful piece we have in our living room.
In conclusion we just loved the Celebrity Solstice it was an amazing cruise and we definitely will sail with Celebrity again.

At $350 / person including taxes we thought was a really good rate.
I knew that it is an older ship but we didn't mind. The room wasn't in the best of conditions and there were stains and it did look worn in areas. We found enough storage for all of our stuff though we are light packers.
We started our cruise eating just buffets which were okay.
The next day we participated in alot of activities that were offered onboard. The dinner in the dining room was really good and we enjoyed it better than the buffet.
The ports were the highlight and we spent alot of time looking around the islands.
Overall for such an amazing deal we thought that this was a great cruise and enjoyed it.

Celebrity really does work on making a wonderful cruise.

The Solstice signature is the Lawn Club which is green grass on the 15th deck. They have a lot of different activities and parties around this grass so it is well used. They also have a live tree growing in the middle of the ship. Not something you would expect on a cruise ship. The rooms have a night light to help people get to the bathroom at night. They have swiveling flat screen TV\'s that you can see from anywhere in the cabin.
They have an Entertainment court with a lot of entertainment going on. We did enjoy watching the many talented acts.

The food onboard was good and for a nominal charge you can go to specialty restaurants which had wonderful food.
The spa onboard was heavinly and I received alot of treatments and enjoyed them all.
I am glad that smoking is not allowed for the most part on the ship. You really do notice the difference especially since Europeans are known to smoke so much and there were quite a few Europeans onboard.

Overall a great cruise and I am looking forward to when I can cruise again on the Celebrity Solstice.

Our trip from Los Angeles was uneventful and we arrived into Fort Lauderdale the night before the cruise. In the morning we had a leisurely breakfast and made our way to the ship by 11:30am.
The embarkation process was easy and there was hardly a lineup. As this was a new ship for us we spent quite a while getting to know the ship.
Our room was wonderfull and we always enjoyed having a balcony. I like just going out at night sitting on the deck and having some wine before dinner. The room was well equipped and had plenty of storage space.
Dining onboard the Solstice was excellent and we enjoyed both the service and the food. I really recommend the Tuscan Grille. We went there 2 nights and both my wife and myself were quite happy.
The entertainment was wonderful I really liked their 3 main production shows - Solstice, Pulse and Ghost light. Definitely a strength for this cruise.
Service was good exceptional from some and average from others but none bad.
The Solstice itself was beautiful inside and I really liked the decor.
Overall a wonderfull cruise on the Solstice and we definitely would sail on her again.

As we had a suite onboard we had a private lounge to wait at until the ship was cleared. They served some really tasty cookies as well as water and punch. I could make reservation for specialty restaurants onboard and have it all taken care of before I boarded.
The boarding process only took 30 minutes.
Inside the ship is beautiful and we really liked the look and feel of everything.
Space in the pool and around the pool was definitely limited. Some people are so aggressive to reserve their lounge chairs as there were never enough. I went out early in the morning and already people had towels books and other items to hold their space. By the time I left they still hadn\'t even showed up while people were looking for a place to sit. Wish they would do a better job of supervising this.
The lawn club seemed like the wrong choice for a ship. It served no real purpose and it seemed like it wasn\'t fairing very well. I saw them replacing huge sections of grass. Guess some dies and then they just pull it out and put more in. You can\'t sit on it or walk on it all you can do is play bocce ball at certain times. Real waste of space if you ask me.
The room was nice and large but that is because we had a suite. No complaints everything was new except I found for this type of room the storage space could have been better.
If it was just for the above I would have given the Solstice a better review. The food service is what brought this cruise down for me.
The dining rooms were beautiful but the food was average at best. The waiters work hard in the dining room but we found that they didn\'t get orders right and didn\'t even know what was being offered on the menu. Some of them really tried hard but overall it was a miss. Even the specialty restaurants were not that good.
Overall the Solstice is a nice ship but the food would make me not want to return.

We received a balcony stateroom and it was beautiful. Everything on the Solstice was new which I wasn't used to with a cruise. New furniture, sheets, towels etc. It all had that new smell. There was lots of storage throughout the room and we had no problem putting away all our clothes and luggage. The room has a refigerator which was nice as we like to store our water in there.
The buffet was the best I had seen. They had many different stations like Mexican, Sushi, Steaks etc and you just pick and choose what you want.
They had a naming ceremony onboard and of course the heads of RCCL were there on the cruise.

The shows onboard were excellent and we watched them both nights. My wife and I really enjoyed the Ghost of Broadway. Overall a spectacular cruise I just wish it was for longer.

Our first was with Carnival which we didn't like at all. That cruise was not suited to us.
We got an inside cabin to save some money but the main problem was we couldn't tell what the weather was like.
Embarkation took a long time as we were standing around for 3 hours waiting to board. They kept giving us excuses but it was not a good experience. Once onboard we had to straighten out or dining as it wasn't what we had asked for. I would recommend going for main dining as once you finished second dining it is almost 11:00pm.
Our day at sea was cloudy and rainy so we took advantage of some of the classes and other activites offered onboard. Then we settled down in the library.
Grand Cayman was a good day and we took a tour around the island visiting the turtle farm and the rest of the island.
Cartegena was still rainy but we did a tour through the Infinity and really enjoyed it.
Puntarenas we took a train that was 100 years old taking us right into the rain forest. We booked this through the ship which we found quite pricey but overall we liked the tour.
Huatulco Mexico was one of our favourite ports and is a beautiful little bay with a town. Overall we enjoyed our day here.
Acapulco, Mexico was a busy town that we didn't care for. We did a short tour today but were not impressed.
Cabo San Lucas, not how we remembered it as this sleepy little town has become very tourist centered.
Disembarkation was once again slow not sure if it was the ship or customs. Either way it took us an hour of waiting.

Overall I give the Infinity a good review.
The food was good but not the best I had ever eaten. There were lots of activites onboard to keep you entertained. The shore excursions though good were very pricey. The staff were attentive and dealt with problems as they occurred. This was better than we had on Carnival. The entertainment was okay but not the best. We found a lot of the shows we didn't care for and didn't go.
Our favourite spot was the 2 story library as it just gave us a place to sit back relax and enjoy our cruise

The service was good and the ports were interesting.

The Summit is a nice ship and everything worked well onboard and I liked the layout of the ship.

The crew didn't have any bad attitudes and everyone especially the Cruise Director was very helpful and nice.

The shows we did see were quite good especially the guest entertainers.

We dined in the Normandie restaurant which we really enjoyed. The food an experience is well worth it I would recommend it.

What I didn't like
Embarkation lines were very long and the building was too hot. After long flights this is not what you want to deal with.

Food at times wasn't the best especially during the buffet. Seems like quantity is more important over quality.

The tours in the ports are very long which makes for long tiring days.

Overall I would do the cruise on the Celebrity Summit again and we really did enjoy it.

We had to say that we really loved this cruise. This is not your typcial cruise where you sit back and relax. You wake up early eat and go out for the first Zodiac ride. You come back around lunch and change clothes and rest of a couple of hours and then you are out again.

We took a lot of pictures and be sure to bring an underwater camera as well as enough batteries, a packpack and good shoes and sandals.

The evening was spent resting and getting the briefing for the next day.
All the staff was excellent and the Naturalists were extremely knowledgeable.

The weather was good and it only rained a few times.

Overall a great cruise that we really enjoyed. A once in a lifetime cruise for us.

We were expecting a top rated cruise ship and this is not what we received.

First of all the embarkation when very smoothly and we were given champagne when we got onboard. Our concierge cabin had fresh fruit, bathrobes, daily canapes and flowers. All of these we really enjoyed.
The air conditioning on the ship was not very good and we found we had to open our balcony door to get any cool air. I don't know how people without a balcony handled this.
We didn't like the dining room as we found the food we were given was not what we ordered. Our waiter just brought us deserts on a tray instead of just choosing from a menu. The shops onboard the ship were overpriced.
Our tour in St Petersburg didn't have any air conditioning on the bus. That made this tour very hot and uncomfortable. Overall we were not happy with our cruise overall and didn't think of Celebrity as a luxury experience.

I was really happy with my stateroom and the ship is was all beautiful. My main complaint was the smoking on this ship. Certain sides of the ship were set aside for smoking but you could even smell it on the sides that were supposed to be nonsmoking. I heard from several other people who sailed Celebrity that this didn't happen on their other cruises. Also all announcements were spoken in 6 different languages so you really have a lot of different nationalities onboard. I really did enjoy the multicultural element to the cruise. My one other observation was on the shore excursions. The buses they used were nice but so narrow that people in wheelchairs or canes had a very hard time. There was no mention in the shore excursion booklet but many people with walking difficulties were getting very upset. Overall a good cruise but I wouldn't go again as once was enough.

We have cruised extensively with RCL and love them and we also tried Holland America which we won't again. Our friends keep going on how much they love Celebrity so we thought we would give them a chance. Knowing that the Century has been refurbished we decided to give them a try. Embarkation was good and when we got on board we were greeted with a glass of champagne. We were in concierge class onboard which was really nice and we liked the attention that we got. Our attendant even asked us what kind of fruit we would like for our basket each day. The cruise itself was fun and we enjoyed all the activities onboard especially the bingo where I won $100.00. The shore excursions were fun but the prices for them I found pricey.

What we liked onboard:

- The Captain's Club hostess was phenomenal.

- Our room attendant was great. He would always be there to help us and would always remember our names.

- Overall, the Century has some good lounges.

- The Aqua Spa Cafe had some really good food that we enjoyed.

- Late dining! This was the first time we have ever tried it and we loved it. We were surprised how much we liked it but we just had a snack first to tide us over.

- Cova Cafe just a good place to settle down with a nice cup of coffee.

Things we thought needed improving

- this was the loudest dining room we have ever had.
- the pool was also a very loud place and they either need more pool loungers or a staff to enforce the no saving of seats rule.
